Kings Race Twist - 01/07/10
Extra points will be on offer every time the male and female leaders go through the start line at the end of each discipline. Taking the idea from thre bunch sprint in cycling, this will mean that race leaders will have an incentive for the sprint sections during this 1 hour 30 gruelling race. Team points 3,2,1 will be awarded for the first male and female at the conclusion of each section. This will also apply to the U16 and U18 races categories too.
When asked about this new introduction, race organisers said ''it should make the endurance event more exciting for thre crowd too as well as letting the better competitors boost their team aggregate scores,''
The event is open to non series competitors too and registration for those athletes will be at 5.30pm with a race briefing at 6.15. Taplin teams and paits are also welcome.
This year the course has changes and the ski leg will be right in the middle of the race hopefully keeping the field closer together for longer.
Hopefully the surf and weather will be kind as it was last year and this should make for a real spectacle. After winning last year and then missing the goldcoast race Garod Thomas will be keen to defend his title and rack up some points for Team Hurricane sponsored by Hunter. Ladies winner Eva murphy will definately miss the race as she is sidelined through illness however the womens race will also be a close one i am sure.
